What is WELCA?

WELCA stands for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. It is a women’s group that is much more than the ladies staked out in the kitchen or the organizers of annual church quilt drives or a monthly coffee clutch.

Here in the Florida-Bahamas Synod we can be proud that our Women of the ELCA members are involved at umprecendented levels beyond what their foremothers envisioned before them. We are a diverse group of mothers, grandmothers, sisters and daughters that have found a common purpose in serving within and beyond our church walls.

Purpose Statement for the Women of the ELCA

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and auction and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
